School Sports Foster a Sense of Community and Provide Balance
School-organized sports are one of the most memorable parts of the academic experience for so many students. Not to mention, most schools have sports embedded in the very curriculum they teach. The importance of implementing sports in any educational facility should not be overlooked. Athletic programs can be used to further the success of youth development in various ways. Sports have been an integral part of the curriculum in India since 1984. This was when the Indian National Sports Policy recommended adding sports and physical education to school curriculums. The same rings true in other countries like the US and the UK.
National Sports Policy adjustments in 2011 emphasized the critical nature and impact of sports in the world of education. Sports can promote productivity and foster harmonious social interactions in an educational setting. As such, student-athletes tend to have healthier eating habits, decreased anxiety, lower levels of depression, and higher levels of cardiovascular health.
