Frequently Asked Questions

ADMISSIONS

What grades does Corvuss American Academy admit students into?

CAA admits students into Grades 6 through 12. Admissions typically open at the start of the academic year, though mid-year enrollment is possible depending on availability and a review of the student’s prior academic records and credits.

Can my child join mid-year?

Yes. Mid-year enrollment is considered on a case-by-case basis. Our Academic Coordinator will review the student’s transcripts and credit history to determine grade placement and eligibility before admission is confirmed.

Can you give me more information on the assessments which are a part of the application process?

We conduct a MAP Screening test as part of the application process. Since students come from a variety of national and international curricula, our assessments are largely skill-based and evaluate the ability levels expected for the grade being applied to. No special preparation beyond a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast  is required or recommended.

FEES & FINANCIAL AID

What does the annual fee cover?

The annual tuition fee covers your child’s academic program, boarding (accommodation and meals), structured sports training, access to all campus facilities, and day-to-day support from our academic, sports, and residential teams. Certain additional expenses such as textbooks, sports-specific equipment, tuck shop spending, field trips, and tournament travel  are the responsibility of the parent.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes. Families with two or more students enrolled receive a 15% discount on the annual fee for the younger student(s). The discount applies until one child graduates or leaves the Academy.

Is financial aid or a scholarship available?

Scholarship opportunities exist and are reviewed on an annual basis. Scholarship continuation is contingent on the student maintaining strong performance across academics, sports, and leadership development, as well as fees being paid in a timely manner. For details on scholarship eligibility, please contact our Admissions team directly.

What is your refund and withdrawal policy?

To withdraw a student, parents must provide one full term’s written notice. If notice is not given, fees for the following term remain payable. In the event a student has not yet commenced at the Academy and enrollment is terminated, all amounts paid  including the seat confirmation fee and security deposit are forfeited. There are no refunds in cases of suspension or expulsion, or if the Academy is closed due to circumstances beyond its control.

BOARDING LIFE

What does a typical day look like for a student at Corvuss?

Student-athletes at Corvuss follow a structured daily routine built around academics, sport, and personal wellbeing. The day begins at 6:00 AM with morning sports training from 6:30–8:30 AM, followed by breakfast and school assembly. Academic lectures run from 10:00 AM through to 4:45 PM, with a lunch break and a rest period in the dorms built into the afternoon. Evening sports training takes place from 5:00–7:00 PM, followed by dinner. Students have supervised mobile phone access from 7:45–8:50 PM, supervised laptop access for studies from 8:50–10:00 PM, and lights out at 10:15 PM. Every part of the day is intentionally designed  so student-athletes are developing on the field and in the classroom, without one compromising the other.

Who supervises students in the dormitories?

Each dormitory has a dedicated Dorm Parent a Boys’ Dorm Parent overseeing the boys’ residence and a Girls’ Dorm Parent overseeing the girls’ residence. Dorm Parents are responsible for the welfare, routine, and overall wellbeing of students in their respective residences.

Can students go home on weekends?

Yes. Corvuss offers two boarding options  Full Boarding and Weekly Boarding. Students on the Weekly Boarding plan who live nearby are permitted to go home on weekends. Full Boarders who wish to go home on a given weekend may do so with prior permission from the Head of the Academy.

ACADEMICS

What second languages are offered at CAA?

Hindi, French, and Spanish are offered at various levels.

Are students assigned homework at CAA?

Yes. Homework at Corvuss is meaningful and age-appropriate, designed to build self-management, mathematical, and literacy skills. The volume of homework increases appropriately as students move into higher grades.

What does a "Weighted GPA" mean?

All AP (Advanced Placement) classes in which a student earns a grade of C or better are weighted in the high school GPA  meaning an extra grade point is added. For weighted AP classes, an A earns 5 grade points, a B earns 4, and a C earns 3. D and F grades do not earn extra points. Note that some university systems limit the number of weighted AP grades taken in Grades 9 and 10 that they will count toward a college GPA.

What is your Teacher Request Policy?

Requests to have or not have a specific teacher are generally not taken or considered. The only exception is if a student has previously had that teacher (or a sibling has) and wishes not to be assigned to them again. Such requests must be made no later than the first week of school and are subject to seat availability and the Master Schedule.

What are the requirements for graduation?

All required courses for graduation must be completed at CAA. Students should meet with their school counselor to review the full requirements for their graduation program.

TECH & COMMUNICATION

Is there a parent and student portal?

Yes. Corvuss uses the Alma student information platform. Both students and parents can log in using their individual credentials to access marksheets, transcripts, attendance records, and academic progress.

What is the phone and device policy on campus?

Students are not permitted to use personal phones throughout the school and training day. Phone access is available each evening from 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM. This structured approach is intentional — it supports focus during academics and sport, while still ensuring students have regular contact time with family.

What technology will my child need?

Students are required to have access to a personal device (laptop or tablet) for academic use on the Aeries platform and for coursework. Specific device requirements are shared as part of the enrollment process.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Do you have support for students with different learning needs?

Yes. Corvuss has a dedicated team of Special Educators who run our Student Success Programme (SSP). The SSP supports students with a range of differing learning abilities and needs, working alongside classroom teachers to ensure each student can access the curriculum effectively.

My child is struggling in a class — what should I do?

Start by speaking with your child to understand the specific challenge  whether it’s attendance, organization, homework, or comprehension. Encourage your child to reach out to the teacher directly; in-person conversations during Nutrition Break tend to be most effective. If the issue continues after teacher-student communication, parents are welcome to request a parent-teacher-student conference through the student’s designated counselor.

How often do parents meet formally with teachers?

Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) are held four times a year once per semester, either in person or online. Outside of scheduled PTMs, parents are welcome to request a meeting with their child’s teachers at any time, and teachers may occasionally reach out to parents as well.

AMERICAN CURRICULUM & OUTCOMES

What is the American Curriculum and how is it different from other boards?

The American Curriculum  also called the American High School Diploma program  is a four-year high school framework (Grades 9–12) recognised globally for its flexibility, depth, and emphasis on critical thinking. Unlike the IB or A-Levels, it allows students to choose from a broad range of subjects including AP (Advanced Placement) courses, which carry college-level academic weight. Students build a GPA over four years and graduate with a diploma recognised by universities across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and beyond.

Does the American Curriculum prepare students for Indian university entrances as well?

The American Curriculum is primarily designed for international university admissions. Students who wish to also prepare for Indian competitive entrance exams (such as CLAT or other domestic exams) can do so through additional preparation, which is available as an elective at the student’s own expense.

Where do Corvuss graduates go after school?

Our student-athletes graduate with a US-recognised High School Diploma and a strong sport and leadership profile, making them competitive applicants for universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and India and more. Our College and Career Counseling team works individually with each student from Grade 9 to support university selection, application strategy, and scholarship opportunities.

How is the American Curriculum compared to other boards?

The American Curriculum is globally recognised for its flexibility, practical learning approach, skill development, and holistic education system. Unlike many traditional boards that focus heavily on rote learning and examinations, the American system emphasizes:

  • Critical thinking
  • Research and analytical skills
  • Communication and presentation abilities
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Project-based and experiential learning

Students are assessed through a combination of assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes, participation, and exams  which gives a more balanced understanding of a child’s capabilities rather than judging them only through final examinations.

Is the American Curriculum difficult or easy?

The curriculum is neither “easy” nor “hard” — it is different.

It focuses less on memorisation and more on understanding concepts and applying them in real-life situations. Students who actively participate, think independently, and engage in learning generally adapt very well.

At Corvuss American Academy, we ensure:

  • Individual attention
  • Academic mentoring
  • Structured support systems
  • Continuous feedback for students and parents

This helps students gradually build confidence and perform successfully.

How do students from different boards cope with the transition?

Students from CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE, State Boards, or other international boards usually adapt smoothly with the right guidance.

Initially, students may notice differences such as:

  • More research-oriented assignments
  • Greater classroom participation
  • Presentation and project work
  • Independent learning methods

However, most students begin adjusting within a few months because the environment encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence-building.

At Corvuss American Academy, our faculty and counselling teams help students transition comfortably through:

  • Orientation support
  • Academic bridging
  • Personal mentoring
  • Continuous monitoring and guidance

Is Corvuss only for students who want to pursue education abroad?

Not at all.

While the American Curriculum is highly beneficial for students aiming for universities abroad, it is equally valuable for students who wish to pursue higher education in India or explore global career opportunities later in life.

The curriculum develops:

  • Leadership skills
  • Communication abilities
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Entrepreneurial thinking
  • Practical exposure

These are essential skills regardless of where a student studies or works in the future

What if we do not want to send our child abroad?

That is completely fine.

The American Curriculum still provides tremendous advantages because it prepares students for:

  • Competitive modern careers
  • Emerging industries
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Liberal education pathways
  • Skill-based future economies

Many universities in India today value:

  • Strong student portfolios
  • Extracurricular achievements
  • Research exposure
  • Communication skills
  • Holistic student profiles

Students from American Curriculum backgrounds often stand out because of their confidence, exposure, and practical learning experience.

How does the American Curriculum help if students stay in India?

Even within India, the curriculum helps students become:

  • Better communicators
  • Independent thinkers
  • Confident presenters
  • Globally aware individuals
  • Future-ready professionals

The learning style encourages students to:

  • Think beyond textbooks
  • Work collaboratively
  • Build leadership qualities
  • Explore innovation and technology
  • Develop real-world skills

These competencies are increasingly important in today’s competitive world.

Is it only restricted to placements in the US?

Absolutely not.

The American Curriculum is globally accepted and opens pathways to universities and careers across:

  • India
  • USA
  • UK
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Europe
  • Singapore
  • UAE
  • and many other countries

Students can pursue careers in any country depending on their interests and goals.

The curriculum’s global recognition gives students flexibility and wider opportunities rather than limiting them to one destination.
